LYNN — The Midas Collaborative, a financial empowerment organization, is having its 15th Annual MassSaves Financial Health and Wellness Summit on Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at North Shore Community College.
“It brings together all the stakeholders that touch financial education,” Midas Executive Director Molly Goodman said. “It’s an opportunity for us to share the best resources, but also to share the status on the current state of financial education.”
At the summit, there will be panels, breakout sessions, and educational resources.
In the first breakout session, credit building products will be discussed.
“Credit building products are financial tools that help individuals establish or improve their credit scores,” the event program said. “This session will help financial educators understand the pros and cons of different credit building products.”
This will be followed by a talk on the state of financial education within higher education.
“Financial literacy is a critical lifelong skill, preferably learned early, but still important as young people transition through college and into adulthood,” the program said. “Our esteemed panel of higher education faculty and students will share different approaches to financial understanding and empowerment.”
The second breakout session will be focused on the past, present, and future of matched savings, resources for K-12 financial education, and financial checkups. The program said these programs are designed for those with low-to-moderate incomes.
“This program is for people who want to know how matched savings programs incentivize working families to boost their savings and build wealth through higher education, small business development, and homeownership and in turn directly reduce the racial wealth gap in our communities,” the program said.
The third breakout session will cover financial self care and the state of K-12 financial education.
“[The financial self care] conversational and participatory program is specifically designed for teachers and nonprofit employees who want to empower themselves and talk about tough truths about money and careers,” the program said.
The event is open to anyone and everyone.
