LYNN — The Department of Public Works and the Litter Committee are joining together to clean up parks in the city from April 22 through June 24.
“This spring, members of the community designate every Saturday of the months of April, May, and June to be able to clean the litter out of designated neighborhood parks across the city,” DPW Associate Commissioner and Litter Committee member Lisa Nerich said in an email interview.
The two groups are partaking in this initiative, she said, because the people of Lynn will be going to city parks to enjoy the weather as it becomes warmer.
“We hope to spread the initiative to keep all areas of Lynn clean for all residents and guests of all ages to enjoy,” Nerich wrote. “Keeping all areas of Lynn clean not only promotes healthy outdoor activities, but it provides many different organizations a clutter-free environment.”
For those who want to participate in the effort, signing up is not required.
“Volunteers are welcome to come to any neighborhood park for the cleanups that occur each Saturday from April 22 until June 24. All cleanups will be from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. unless otherwise noted,” Nerich wrote. “Additionally, volunteer hours may be used for community services hours.”
The first cleanup is on Saturday at Lynn Commons from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
The other locations and dates are Henry Avenue on April 29, Barry Park on May 6, Clark Park on May 13, High Rock on May 20, Keaney Park on May 27, Gallagher Park on June 3, McManus Park on June 10, Flax Pond Park on June 17, and Northern Strand Trail on June 24.
“The City of Lynn, DPW, and Litter Committee will continue to beautify our parks and playgrounds. We have had great success from volunteers of all ages coming together with the same goal: to keep our city clean,” Nerich wrote. “In my time in being able to clean and beautify our city, I have followed the saying ‘clean today for a better tomorrow.'”
