The St. Mary’s softball team was in danger of picking up its first loss of the season, trailing 3-0 at the end of the first inning and 4-2 heading into the fourth against Somerset-Berkley Thursday afternoon.

That said, things turned out fine. The Spartans fought back and outscored the Blue Raiders 5-0 over the final three innings en route to a 7-4 road victory.

The score was tied 4-4 in the top of the fifth inning when Lori Suriel hit the game-winning single for St. Mary’s, which drove in Anna Fringuelli and Brooke Moloney (6-4 St. Mary’s). The Spartans’ Gabrielle Marichal went 1-for-2 with an RBI and tied the game 4-4 in the fourth inning.

St. Mary’s pitcher Fringuelli took care of the rest, as she went the distance and struck out five in the process. The Spartans remain perfect at 7-0.
