LYNN — The Lynn lacrosse team was all smiles after a dominant display against Revere on Thursday. The 9-4 win put the Jets at 4-3, and extended a three-game winning streak.
According to Jets coach Peter Pappagianopoulos, it was important to get out to a fast start.
Lynn scored four goals in the first quarter for a 4-0 lead. The first came from midfielder Ryan Dunn who intercepted a pass from Revere’s goalie and took it himself to find twine.
Three goals in quick succession followed from Ian Brown, Nick Costa, and Nate Sisson.
“We started to find our shots a little bit better. We took too many long shots early. We settled down and started to finally get into some offense and everything started to come together,” Pappagianopoulos said.
The Jets held a shutout in the first quarter, largely in part to goalie Christian Serino. Pappagianopoulos was full of praise for his netminder, who made 11 saves.
“He has come along incredibly this year,” Pappagianopoulos said. “He started playing lacrosse last year for the first time, started as a short stick, and halfway through the season he said he wanted to try goalie. He was the JV (junior varsity) keeper last year and backup to varsity. He came out this year and has really grown up. I’m so impressed with him.”
The Jets tacked on two more goals in the second for a 6-1 halftime lead.
“We battled hard. We have a great group of kids working hard and we were able to get a lot of kids playing time,” Pappagianopoulos said.
The Jets continued to work hard until the final horn. When asked what’s changed since game one, Pappagianopoulos went back to starting strong.
“We came out slow in some games early this season and weren’t able to come back, now it seems like we’re really coming on. Our coaches have done a great job getting the guys going a little bit harder in pregame to get them ready to start every game. The senior leaders are doing a good job getting the team ready to go,” Pappagianopoulos said.
Pappagianopoulos also spoke on his team’s ball movement, saying it’s better, but not perfect.
“We’re just trying to come together as a better lacrosse team. It starts there (ball movement),” Pappagianopoulos said. “It’s the confidence to trust each other to move the ball and keep everybody involved. When things don’t go right, people want to take it upon themselves because it’s easier to do it yourself than trust your team. So, we’re constantly working on being a better team.”
Well, the Jets are flying, and look to make it four in a row when they visit Salem on Tuesday (4:30 p.m.).
