LYNN — A three-unit building at 41 Lovers Leap Ave. caught fire Friday morning around 7:30 a.m. When Lynn Fire Department arrived on scene, heavy fire was visible going up the back side of the building, Fire Chief Dan Sullivan said.
The fire eventually reached the attic, and as of 10:30 a.m., crews were working on addressing “hotspots,” Sullivan said.
Eight residents live in the building.
“All of them got out before we got there,” Sullivan said.
No residents or firefighters sustained injuries. One cat and one dog also lived in the building and both got out safe, Sullivan added.
Melanie Kruger, a resident, said she woke up this morning to her phone alarm and that is when she heard the smoke detectors. At first she thought it was coming from another building but soon realized it was her own.
“I finally opened my eyes and then I looked out the window and it was just fire,” Kruger said.
When she found her roommate, their immediate reaction was to grab the fire extinguisher.
“Then we went to my room and then she was like, ‘okay, no, no, we just need to leave,’ and so we just ran down the stairs, and we’ve been (outside) ever since,” Kruger said.
The Red Cross and Salvation Army were on scene to assist residents.
