You know what I’ve been thinking? When you have three games in a week, it presents an opportunity. That said, what did Lily Ventre of Saugus softball do with it? A whole lot. On Monday, in a game against Waltham, Ventre showed off her power, as well as her ability to make contact. The power hitter recorded two hits with one of them going over the wall for a two-run shot. Something tells me she would’ve gone for more, but the Sachems mercied the opposition. Next, Swampscott, and Ventre didn’t cool off. Like clockwork, she hit another two-run shot in her 2-for-4 performance (man, this Saugus offense is legit). Unfortunately, Saugus met its match against Gloucester in its third game in five days, but Ventre still showed up. She went 1-for-2 with a single and a walk in a quiet (for her standards), yet solid performance to end the week. Saugus hosts Pentucket Regional at 4 p.m. on Monday – let’s see if Ventre can make a statement to begin this week, too. To the Saugus softball team, and especially Lily, good week.
