It may have taken some extra softball, but Swampscott’s nine-inning win against Winthrop was a thriller. In the 6-5 victory, Mia Tringale went all nine innings, allowing just seven hits and never buckling under pressure.
Lily Rice doubled in the game-winner in the bottom of the ninth. Lucia Alvarado, Lauryn Fahey, Tringale, and CeCe O’Connor all had multi-hit showings.

Classical upped its record to 4-2 with a thrashing of Chelsea at home. Rachel Dana and Brooke Braswell combined for a no-hitter on the mound.
Dana had four strikeouts in three innings, while Braswell retired five in two. Nevaeh Eth hit her fourth homer of the year and registered five RBI.
Lily Newell and Kylee Mills each scored three runs, and Classical has allowed just one hit in its last three games.
Mystic Valley 16
Lynn Tech 0
Lynn Tech was the host team on Tuesday, but Mystic Valley ran away with things. The Tigers only had a few baserunners throughout the game, but none touched home plate.
Tech’s record dipped to 2-5, and the Tigers look for revenge Wednesday against Minuteman at home (4 p.m.).

The Spartans move forward with an 8-0 record after defeating Stang 5-0 on Tuesday. Eighth-grader Aliza Crean-Oviedo got the win (6 inn., 4 strikeouts) while Ashanthy Pardilla led the offense with two RBI.

Five innings were all Fenwick’s baseball team needed Tuesday, and the Crusaders bested Matignon by 11 runs. John Hogan got the start and didn’t disappoint, throwing 90 pitches for a complete game victory.
Leadoff hitter Costa Beechin got on base three times and Nick Vallano got on four times to lead a scattered day of hitting for Fenwick’s offense.

Saugus 4
Saugus baseball coach Joe Luis called Tuesday’s game a heartbreaker, as his Sachems lost 7-4 against Shawsheen Tech.
The game was tied 4-4 when Shawsheen Valley doubled to score two – the eventual game-winning runs. Saugus lost despite outhitting the opposition 9-7.
Cam Bernard started for Saugus, and the righthander went 5 2/3 innings, allowing seven runs on seven hits while striking out six and walking one. Danny Zeitz and Jordan Rodriguez entered the game from the bullpen and played well.
Bernard, Cam Soroko, and Shane Bourque all recorded multiple hits, and Bernard led the way with three in three at-bats.

St. Mary’s 1
Bishop Stang, the Catholic Central’s leader, defeated St. Mary’s 4-4, dipping the Spartans to 4-4.
Seth Sullivan, Cam McGonagle, and Shea Newhall had the St. Mary’s hits, while Jacob Peterson threw four strong innings in relief.

The St. John’s Prep Eagles (8-1) defeated Malden Catholic Tuesday afternoon in a Catholic Conference clash. Nine Eagles scored, including Sam Kelly and Danny Cahill who each tallied their first varsity goals.
Owen Williamson and JP Sullivan played well defensively, but the offense never stopped.
Will Sawyer, Harlan Graber, Joe Bullard, Danny Cahill, and Sam Kelly all scored twice, while Brendan Powers, Oliver Roselli, Trevor McInnis, and Jack Quigley scored one apiece.
Prep returns to action Thursday against St. John’s Shrewsbury at 5:30 pm.

Sydney Langton registered a hat-trick, but Marblehead’s girls lacrosse team was bested by Masco on Tuesday. Lucy Wales (2 goals), Isabelle Ferrante, Gretchen Smith, Ramona Gillett, and Maddie Forbes all netted goals.
Addie Lydon made seven saves between the pipes, but it wasn’t enough for Marblehead as its comeback attempt (trailing 7-4 at halftime) fell short.

The Magicians defended their home courts Tuesday afternoon. In first singles, Mika Garber won his match 6-1, 6-2. Marblehead’s coach Elisabeth Foukal said Garber “played smart tennis to outmaneuver [his] lefty opponent.” In second singles, Jost Eggebrecht won his match 4-6, 6-4, 6-3.
