Tech Tigers never quit (ROUNDUP)

Never go down without a swing. The Lynn Tech baseball team rallied back from a four-run deficit to win 8-4 against Minuteman.

Minuteman scored all of its runs in the first inning, giving the Tigers an early mountain to climb. 

Well, two can play that game. A big fourth inning featured all eight of Tech’s runs. Dylan Nordyke went 3-for-4 while Eddie Lewis and Chris Boyd each went 2-for-3. 

Tech coach Ed Lewis praised the hard work of his team.

“My guys are working really hard and getting better every day,” Lewis said. “They deserve all the credit in the world for all the hard work they’re putting in. Win, lose or draw, they trust the process and they all bought in. It showed today.”

BASEBALL

Peabody 7

Winthrop 2

The Tanners defended home field as Mike Petro pitched a complete game six-hitter with two strikeouts. Petro was hot at the plate also, going 2-for-4 with two RBI. Jariel Tolentino went 2-for-4 scoring two runs, while teammate Cam Connolly also went 2-for-4 with a run. 

Danvers 6

Marblehead 5

Early errors came back to hurt Marblehead as Danvers stole a victory with two runs in the sixth inning. Ian Maude pitched all six innings for Marblehead, recording eight strikeouts and allowing seven hits.

Bodie Bartram went 3-for-4 at the plate with a double. The Magicians held a 5-4 lead heading into the sixth inning before Danvers’ rally. 

Salem 9

Swampscott 4

Nick Berube pitched four strong innings for the Big Blue. He also showed his offensive prowess with two hits, one RBI, and one run. Chase Groothuis and Connor Chiarello each recorded RBI doubles.

Caden Ross drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning. The Big Blue’s next game is Wednesday when they travel to Beverly. 

Lynnfield 10

Amesbury 7

In a high-scoring affair, Rob Higdon earned the win from the mound. Anthony Grabau recorded three hits and drove in three RBI for the Pioneers.

Tyler Adamo chipped in with a couple of hits and two RBI, while teammate Nick Razzaboni had an RBI single. Devin Bolger impressed as well, adding two hits and two RBI. 

SOFTBALL

Feehan 9

St. Mary’s 1

The Spartans dropped their first game of the season (8-1) in a tough loss to Feehan. Feehan turned up the heat early, scoring five runs in the first inning.

Anna Fringuelli had two hits, while teammate Lory Suriel had an RBI triple for the Spartans. 

BOYS LACROSSE

St. John’s Prep 14

St. John’s Shrewsbury 4

The Eagles’ hot start (9-1) continues with another dominant win. The Eagles led 9-0 at halftime, and Will Sawyer led the way with three goals in total.

Cam McCarthy played the role of the playmaker, tallying four assists to go with a goal. Austin Kitces made nine saves on 10 shots in 26 minutes. 

GIRLS LACROSSE 

Marblehead 15

Salem 2

The Magicians picked up their first win of the season with a victory against the Witches. Marblehead led 12-0 by halftime and didn’t look back. Ramona Gillett scored four goals and won six draws.

Sydney Langton and Lucy Wales each netted hat-tricks. Sydney Shull, Cassidy Lubeck, Maddie Forbes, and Gretchen Smith all got on the scoresheet while goalie Addie Lydon made three saves.

Swampscott 17

Danvers 7

The Big Blue (5-2) cruised to another victory on Thursday. The goals were shared across Swampscott’s attack as Sophia Ciciotti led the way with five goals. Teammate Brooke Waters chipped in with four, and Abby Eichler recorded a hat-trick and an assist.

Lilah Caplan was solid in net, finishing with seven saves. The Big Blue’s next game is Monday when they travel to Winthrop. 

Peabody 19

Winthrop 3

The high-powered Peabody offense was on full display Thursday. Brooke Lomasney and Madi Barrett each scored five goals.

Both Siobhan Smith and Ally Bettencourt netted hat-tricks, while Caitlin Snow stood strong in net with four saves. 

BOYS TENNIS

Lynnfield 4

Pentucket 1

Dan Levin and Shea McCarthy each swept their respective matches 6-0, 6-0 to get the Pioneers off to a flying start. In doubles, Russell Kasdon and Rafik Khodr also swept to secure the victory. 

The win moves Lynnfield’s league record to 4-0 and overall record to 4-1. 

GIRLS TENNIS

Lynnfield 5

Pentucket 0

Lynnfield keeps on rolling after sweeping Pentucket on Thursday. Paige Martino and Genna Gioioso each won their respective matches 6-0, 6-0, while Maddie Sieve joined the singles party with a 6-1, 6-3 win.

In doubles, Leticia Marafon and Ella Hayman won in straight sets (6-3, 6-2) while Lily Alves and Ciara Long bounced back after losing the first set (1-6) to win the next two 6-2, 6-4. 

Newburyport 4

Marblehead 1

Newburyport got out to a fast start, winning the first two singles matches. Charly Cooper won Marblehead’s lone match (7-6, 2-6, 12-10).

“Newburyport is obviously a tough opponent, hats off to them,” coach Tracy Ackerman said. “It was great competition all around [and a] super win for Charly at third singles.”

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

Classical 3

Whittier Tech 1

The Rams had a career-high night with senior setter Karim Chinchilla recording 33 assists. Sophomore Viet Tran had 16 kills while John Ly had 15 and 10 aces. The win gives the Rams their third of the season.
