Playing in enemy territory was no problem for the Saugus softball team Friday, which won 6-5 against Somerville. Maria Silva was called up from junior varsity and went 3-for-3, which included a two-out game-winning RBI in the seventh inning.
Taylor Deleidi got the start for Saugus, allowing five hits and striking out six. Offensively, Lily Ventre and Devany Millerick each recorded two hits, while Alexa Morello added an RBI-triple.

Against undefeated Masco, St. Mary’s baseball team was bested on Friday. That said, its runs came in highlight-reel fashion.
Tad Giardina went 3-for-3 with a two-run homer, while Seth Sullivan added a solo shot for St. Mary’s.
The Spartans travel to take on Malden Catholic Saturday at 10 a.m.

After allowing three runs in the first inning, the Rams “settled down” according to head coach Mark Zukowski.
Almani Gerardo had a big day at the plate, going 2-for-5 with two runs, a homer, double, and five RBI. Darnell Leon was 3-for-5 with two runs and two RBI, while Sam Ohannesian went 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.
Christian Figueroa got involved with two hits, while Brady Warren registered an RBI double. Christian Spates also had a hit.
Kevin Whalen pitched a complete game with zero walks and four strikeouts – good for his fourth win of the season.
The win brings the Rams to 9-1, and they’re back home against Everett on Wednesday.

Despite Ava Nason tacking on five goals, St. Mary’s girls lacrosse team was handled by Malden Catholic on Friday. The Spartans travel to face Boston Latin Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Marblehead 4
Masconomet 1
The Marblehead boys tennis team prevailed against a strong Masco team 4-1 on Friday, with Mika Garber, Jost Eggebrecht, and Matthew Sherf all cruising to singles wins.
The duo of Jayden Janock and Etan Farfel got the job done in doubles, and that’s all Marblehead needed. The Magicians moved to 5-0 in-conference and 5-2 overall.

Reigning state champion Masco is off to a strong start this season. That continued Friday, as the Chieftains didn’t concede a single point in singles play against Marblehead.
The Magicians put up a strong fight in doubles, however. Courtney Yoder and Aviva Bornstein lost 2-6, 1-6, while Aoife Bresnahan and Lucia Levin had some long, hard-fought stretches, but lost 4-6, 1-6.
Marblehead still remains 4-1 in-conference.
