Lomasney scores 100th career goal in win (ROUNDUP)

Peabody’s girls lacrosse team has a special player on its hands in Brooke Lomasney. In a 15-11 win over Lexington, Lomasney scored seven goals, including her 100th career goal.

Lomasney also showed she’s a willing passer, assisting twice on the day. Fellow sophomore Ally Bettencourt scored four times and assisted twice. In net, Caitlin Snow made five saves. 

The win moves the Tanners to 7-3. The Tanners next match is on Thursday, when they travel to Masco for a 4:30 game. 

GIRLS LACROSSE 

Beverly 13

Marblehead 8

The Magicians found themselves down 10-3 at half and put together a strong second half, outsourcing Beverly 5-3, but it wasn’t enough on the day. Sydney Langton, Lucy Wales, Ramona Gillett, and Maddie Forbes all scored two goals. In net, Kate Santesanio made nine saves. 

Swampscott 16

Winthrop 2

Swampscott improves to 6-2 after a strong display. Avery Laundry led the Big Blue with five goals, while teammate Coco Clopton chipped in with four. Goalie Lilah Caplan saved 10 shots. The Big Blue hosts Gloucester on Thursday. 

BASEBALL

Danvers 2

Bishop Fenwick 1

The game was a pitching duel, as Danvers pitched a five-hitter and it was enough to earn the win. Carter McFadden and Mike Williams were on the mound for the Crusaders and combined to throw a four-hitter. 

English at Revere

Lynnfield 5

Boston Latin 2

Lauren Amico pitched five innings with two strikeouts, earning the win. Sophia Brown pitched the final two innings, recording the save. On offense, it was Abi Travers, who hit a two-run home run. Both Lily Williams and Ava Marotta recorded RBI hits. 

BOYS LACROSSE

St. John’s Prep 14

Xaverian 8

The Eagles defended home field, earning them a Catholic Conference victory. “Defensively, Alex Perault, Nate Jones and Nick Schibli played well,” Coach John Pynchon said. Jimmy Ayers scored four goals for the Eagles, while Chris Esposito went 13-of-24 on face-offs. 

BOYS TENNIS

Lynnfield 3

Manchester Essex 2

The Pioneers went on the road and came home with a win against a “very competitive Manchester Essex,” Coach Joseph Dunn said. Lynnfield is now 5-0 in the CAL and 5-1 overall. 

Marblehead 5

Winthrop 0

With the Magicians resting their first singles player, it gave everyone else a chance to move up and play. Etan Farfel played singles on the day, winning 6-0, 6-0. Ben Zaltsman got his varsity debut in second doubles, winning with partner Jimmy King 6-0, 6-1.

The Crusaders snap the Pioneers’ five-game win streak. Lynnfield won the first two matches behind Paige Martino (6-3, 7-6) and Genna Gioioso (8-6, 6-1). The Crusaders won the final three 

games to claim the victory. 

English 3

Revere 2

First singles, Heaven Veliz De Leon, won her match 7-6, 6-1 to get English off to a fast start. Revere then made a comeback to put pressure on the Bulldogs. First doubles Sophia Johansson and Heba Belmir won their match (7-5, 6-1). Then, it was Jessica Prak and Claudia Lopez winning to earn the Bulldogs the match win. 

Swampscott 3

Danvers 2

With the match tied at two, the Big Blue needed two freshmen to team up and win their doubles match to bring home the victory. In her first varsity match, Ava O’Donnell teamed up with Ana Eccles and the freshman duo battled to victory (6-7, 5-7, 6-4, 6-3). 

Marblehead 5

Winthrop 0

It was a clean sweep for the Magicians to move them to 4-1 in the conference. Pauline Geissler,  Andrea Potvin, and Samara Dosch won their singles matches, while Marblehead’s duos Reese Friedman/Lani Gilmore and Hannah Atkinson/Amelia Singer also won. 

VOLLEYBALL

Medford 3

Classical 1

The Rams lost a close game that Coach Chris LeBlanc said “could have gone either way.” Viet Tran recorded 21 kills and ten digs. Karim Chinchilla had 28 assists and nine digs. Classical will look to bounce back with a home game against Everett on Wednesday. 

St. John’s Prep 3

Xaverian 0

St. John’s Prep got back to winning ways, sweeping Xaverian in straight sets. The Eagles’ next game is on Wednesday, when they host Needham.
