LYNN — Lynn District Court First Justice Ina Howard-Hogan and Junee Barber, a second-year law student at the University of Maryland, are the guests on this week’s episode of “The American Dream,” a Lynn Community TV Show hosted by Attorney James J. Carrigan.
Howard-Hogan and Barber, both alums of Thurgood Marshall Middle School, joined Carrigan to discuss the district’s Law Day.
Law Day, a program created by Carrigan, spans the entire Lynn Public School district, with speakers from the political world and beyond dropping in to talk to students about the field of law.
The conversation between Howard-Hogan, Barber, and Carrigan ran for just shy of half an hour, and began with a discussion of Barber’s experience at a Law Day speaking event more than a decade ago. Then, Judge Stacey Fortes was the featured speaker at Marshall. As a Black woman, Barber recalled it was the first time she saw someone who looked like her in the career that she wanted to pursue.
Later, Howard-Hogan lauded the value of the program.
“It’s an opportunity for young people in the city, people to inspire, to give back, that’s one of the things, particularly the Lynn District Court, we want young people to know about our justice system,” she said. “It’s going very well so far.”
The show, which airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m., Fridays at 8 p.m., and Saturdays at 7 a.m. on Comcast Channel 3 and Verizon Channel 38, is “designed to give viewers a behind-the-scenes look at how public and private policy is developed,” according to Carrigan.
Episodes can be found on the Lynn Community Television website after they air.
