In a storybook finish, Lynn Classical’s volleyball team won the first two, lost the next two, then won the fifth and final game against Everett on Wednesday.
In the 3-2 victory, sophomore middle blocker Josh Gonzalez had his best game of the season with eight kills and five blocks, while sophomore outside hitter Viet Tran had 16 kills. Senior setter Karim Chinchilla impressed with 26 assists and three blocks.
Classical looks to defend its home hardwood against Pioneer Charter of Saugus on Thursday (4:15 p.m.).

St. Mary’s baseball team impressed on Wednesday, besting Arlington Catholic 5-1 with lots of Spartans getting in on the action.
Tommy Falasca was dominant on the mound with nine strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings, while Tad Giardina had a pair of hits and an RBI to lead the offense.

With Beverly’s pitching prowess on full display, Swampscott’s bats struggled in this one. Jamison Ford picked up the loss for Swampscott, while Dawson Dibarri pitched well in relief, going 4 2/3 innings while allowing just one run.
Swampscott’s record dipped to 2-9.

St. John’s Prep 4
In a hard one to swallow, the St. John’s Prep baseball team lost in walk-off fashion to St. John’s. Nic Lembo, Cam LaGrassa, and Marco Zirpolo all recorded two hits, while Nate Marston registered two RBI.
Joe Williams got the start on the mound, retiring six in five innings while allowing just four hits.

Saugus 1
The Saugus softball team fell to 5-4 after losing to Beverly on Wednesday. That said, some young players surely impressed.
Eighth grader Sydney Deleidi made plays at second base, while freshman Anna Enwright hit a single. Freshman Sophia Desmond also hit a single – her first varsity hit – and eighth grader Sydney Ferreira went home with a single as well.
“It’s nice to see all of these young kids do well,” coach Steve Almquist said.
Taylor Deleidi went all seven on the hill, allowing five earned runs and racking up two hits at the plate.

Everett scored six runs in the bottom of the 6th to stun the Rams, but positives were aplenty for Classical.
Rachel Dana was 2-for-4 with an RBI, MeKayla Poisson hit a two-run triple and scored a run, while Eliana Alas scored a run to go with her RBI single. Lauren Wilson singled and scored a run, and Manuela Lizardo batted 2-for-4.
Classical’s record dropped to 6-3, while Everett moved forward to 12-1.

A 10-run loss isn’t easy to swallow, but Swampscott didn’t go down without a fight. Mia Tringale had two hits and pitched well in defeat, while Delaney Miller tacked on two hits.

It’s nice when you move to 8-1 on the season, and even better when you do it in walk-off fashion. Brooke Moloney scored the game-winning run on a Lory Suriel single, and Ashanthy Pardilla belted a three-run homer in St. Mary’s victory.

Bryce Kay dominated on draws, Kelan Cardinal recorded a hat-trick and six assists, and Lynnfield’s boys lacrosse team got back in the win column with a 15-2 decision against North Reading on Wednesday.
Lynnfield had lost its prior two games heading into Wednesday.

In, frankly, a huge win against Arlington Catholic, St. Mary’s girls lacrosse team was victorious with its stars leading the way. Payton Quirk recorded 17 saves between the pipes, while Kasey Litwin and Ava Nason each ripped four goals.
Chloe Sullivan, Jill Kirby, Gianna Young, Vanessa Hall, and Abbie Poole all went home with points.
BOYS TENNIS
Marblehead 4
Gloucester 1
Marblehead prevailed on its home court against a strong Gloucester team on Wednesday. Winners were Mika Garber, Jost Eggebrecht, Matthew Sherf, and the duo of Etan Farfel and Jayden Janock in doubles.
In the hosts’ lone defeat, sophomore Leo Winocour made his varsity debut, teaming up with senior co-captain Jimmy King. The pair played an excellent first set before Gloucester came on strong to collect the win.

In a road matchup against a tough Newburyport club, Lynnfield got the job done. In singles, Caden Eiserman, Alex Lambert, and Andrew Long racked up wins, while Jonas Kinney and Brendan Curan won their doubles matchup.
Despite the cold and clouds, Lynnfield upped its record to 6-1.

Swampscott 2
Swampscott’s winners were Laine Foutes in second singles (6-4, 6-4), as well as the first doubles team of Anna Ratner and Victoria Quagrello (6-1, 7-5). Unfortunately for Swampscott, that would be all.
The match lasted more than three hours and came down to a third set in first singles. Unfortunately for the Big Blue, Veronika Isagulyan fell despite a strong performance.
The Big Blue dipped to 3-4 with the loss.
Marblehead 5

Another day, another clean sweep for Marblehead’s girls tennis team as the Magicians rolled over Gloucester 5-0. Charley Cooper, Aviva Bornstein, Courtney Yoder, and the duos of Aoife Bresnahan-Lucia Levin and Hannah Atkinson-Amelia Singer were the victors.
TRACK AND FIELD
On a cool day at Manning Field in Lynn, the Lynn Tech girls impressed, but none more than Brianna Anderson who collected four wins. Jireilis DeJesus picked up three wins, respectively.
Other winners were Amaya Williams, Edrwige Naretelv, Lee Lewis, Ariana Camilo, and Kaylee Deschamps.
On the boys side, Isaiah Marshall, Cesar Reyes, and Ryan Mendez all won two events. Anthony Perez also placed first in the 2-mile.
