LYNNFIELD — If there’s one thing to take away from Lynnfield’s girls lacrosse team, it’s that they will continue to fight until the final whistle. The Pioneers lost 20-9 against a strong Hamilton-Wenham team.
Despite the scoreline, the Pioneers showed a lot of heart, something Head Coach Christina Serra acknowledged postgame.
“I felt like our girls played really hard and they played well,” Serra said. “We played a really hard team and we scored nine goals against a very good team.”
Lynnfield’s Chloe Considine found herself open in front of the net and ripped a shot past Hamilton-Wenham’s goalie to cut the lead to six (11-5) right before halftime.
Throughout the game, the Lynnfield faithful voiced their disagreements with the referee’s calls. When asked about the officiating, Serra refused to use it as an excuse. “We had a little bit of frustration on some of the calls but it is what it is. You have to work around them,” Serra said.
Although the Pioneers found themselves down big in the second half, they showed their offensive potential and worked the ball around before Avery Bird scored from the center of the goal, capping a well-worked offensive set to make it 8-19 with four minutes left.
“They don’t give up, they play hard, and they hustle,” Serra said. “You can’t really ask for anything else.”
Serra gave credit to Hamilton-Wenham and wants her team to keep up the level of play throughout the next games.
“I want them to play the same way they played today,” Serra said. “We know there are some teams that are just going to be hard for us to beat. We just need to continue to play the best we can.”
When asked who she believes played well, Serra first credited the whole team for playing well and then talked about the draw circle.
“The girls in our draw circle all played well. Taylor Valiton, Charlotte Radulski, Chloe Gromko, and Hannah Gromko all fighting in the draw circle really helped us today,” Serra said.
The Pioneers move to 6-6 on the season and will look to bounce back to winning ways on Wednesday when they travel to Georgetown, with the game scheduled to start at 4 p.m.
