PEABODY — Beginning on Wednesday, Endicott Street will be closed to traffic from its intersection with Lowell Street to its intersection with Warren Street.
The closure will continue for the duration of the Endicott Street Bridge replacement project, which is expected to last throughout the summer into early fall.
Drivers should note that the Warren Street Extension will be accessible during this time.
“We certainly regret the inconvenience this road closure will cause,” said Mayor Edward A. Bettencourt Jr. “Once complete, however, the new Endicott Street Bridge will allow for safe and efficient travel for thousands of vehicles each day.”
Earlier this year, the City Council approved a $650,000 bond request from Bettencourt for the replacement of the bridge, with the total project cost estimated at $1.2 million. Bettencourt said the city received state grants to help facilitate the project.
While the street will be closed for a significant period of time during construction, Bettencourt said the work is “necessary and required by the state.”
Ward 3 Councilor Stephanie Peach said she drives through Endicott Street regularly. She is not looking forward to having the street closed but appreciates Bettencourt “for being proactive on the Endicott project.”
