You know what I’ve been thinking? I love when a first-year head coach and inspired players work together to achieve something. That said, and I’ve got to tell you, I think Peabody’s girls tennis team is cooking up something special.
Why? Well, under coach John Sousa, his team (5-2) already has more wins than in the 2021 and 2022 seasons combined. The feat was accomplished this past week with the Tanners serving up wins against Saugus on Wednesday, and Salem Friday – oh, and both were in shutout fashion.
After Jessica Chau won a competitive singles match against Saugus, Yasmine Giacalone and Valentina Goga combined to lose just one game to round out singles play. From there, the combinations of Jill McGrath-Theodosia Kourtelidis and Efthyghia Kourtelidis-Argiro Psyhogios were victorious in doubles.
Goga beat her Salem opponent in straight games two days later to headline another dominant performance from Peabody.
“Our team is made up of some of the most kind, intelligent, and hard-working girls I have ever had the pleasure to coach,” Sousa said.
Sousa also commented on his players’ support of one another. Between that, and all of the on-court success, it seems like all is going well in Peabody land. To the girls tennis team, good week.
