SAUGUS — Swampscott’s girls lacrosse team (7-4) buried Saugus (3-9) on the Sachems’ own field Wednesday, leaving with an 18-4 victory.

Coming off a 14-7 loss to Peabody on Monday, Swampscott’s three-game winning streak was snapped. Come Wednesday, however, and the Big Blue didn’t disappoint.

Brooke Waters registered four goals for Swampscott, while Sophia Ciciotti, Coco Clopton, and Abby Eichler all scored hat-tricks.

Avery Laundry led in the shots on goal category — two of seven entering the net. Riley Johnson, Mia Leone, and Maisie Russo each added a goal and an assist.

Swampscott goalie Lilah Caplan fought off seven Saugus shots, and despite the 14-point final, Saugus posed some challenges according to Swampscott coach Al Eaton.

“We, for the most part, executed what we wanted to. I saw them throw some things at us that we hadn’t seen before, so it was a challenge to kind of adjust to them, which is always good for the team to be able to make those adjustments on the fly,” Eaton said, “It’s a sign of a good team, one that can understand what the problem is and how to fix it.”

Eaton noted that draw control has been an issue for his team, and that it was tested Wednesday.

“That possession is something we try to work at, controlling that tempo by having the ball and dictating what goes on,” Eaton said. “That’s what our plan will be, anyway, for tomorrow and when we see these guys again on Monday.”

Swampscott will travel for an away game against Salem on Thursday, and host Saugus on Monday.
