Timely hitting lifts Fenwick over Stang

Bishop Fenwick’s baseball team welcomed conference opponent Bishop Stang to its home diamond Thursday. A few hours later, the Crusaders kicked the Spartans out.

In the 3-2 final, six Crusaders registered hits, including Cormac Heney, Will McFadden, and Nick Villano who accounted for the three RBI.

Mike Williams went the distance on the hill for Fenwick, retiring five and allowing just five hits.

BASEBALL

St. Mary’s 8
Arlington Catholic 2

On a Thursday full of tournament-clinching wins, check St. Mary’s baseball off the list after its 8-2 win against Arlington Catholic at Fraser Field.

For the Spartans – winners of six straight – Josh Doney (8 strikeouts) earned the win, while Cam McGonagle (3-for-4, 1 run, 1 RBI), Shea Newhall (2-for-2, 1 run, 2 RBI), and Michael DeMaino (2-for-4, 1 run, 2 RBI) led the charge offensively.

VOLLEYBALL

Pioneer Charter of Saugus 3
Classical 2

The Rams (7-12) lost Thursday’s road game in set scores of 25-12, 16-25, 19-25, 25-19, 10-15.

Senior setter and captain Karim Chinchilla had 39 assists for the second consecutive night, giving him 477 on the season. Junior outside hitter Jonathan Ly added 20 kills and four digs for Classical.

Classical’s next, and final, match is Thursday against Lynn Tech at 4:15 p.m. It’s also senior day for the Rams.

SOFTBALL

St. Mary’s 11
Newburyport 7

Trailing 3-0? Well, that’s light work for St. Mary’s softball team (15-1). The Spartans came all the way back on Thursday to win 7-6 in enemy territory. Gabby Marichal (2-for-4, 3 RBI), Michaela Walker (2-for-3, 2 RBI), and Brooke Moloney (3-for-5) all got the job done at the plate.

Peabody 8
Gloucester 5

Peabody’s softball team (15-1) reeled in some Fishermen Thursday. Avery Grieco got things started with an RBI, Logan Lomasney knocked in a pair, and Isabel Bettencourt’s double drove in two to highlight the offense.

The Tanners never looked back, and return to action Wednesday against Tewksbury (7 p.m.).

GIRLS LACROSSE

Masconomet 16
Swampscott 10

Swampscott’s girls lacrosse team (10-4) fought hard, but fell to Masco at home. Abby Eichler (3 goals) and Coco Clopton (2 goals, 2 assists) led the Big Blue. Clopton opened the game with her 100th career goal.

Sophia Ciciotti and Avery Laundry each scored twice, while Chloe Puzzo and Brooke Waters registered one apiece. Lilah Caplan impressed with 10 saves between Swampscott’s pipes.

Marblehead 18
Winthrop 8

Sydney Langton scored four goals, Lucy Wales added three, and Marblehead’s girls lacrosse team (6-11) conquered some Vikings Thursday.

Maddie Forbes and Caitlyn Ryan added two goals each, and Kate Santesanio made eight saves for the Magicians.

Peabody 10
Saugus 0

Peabody’s Ally Bettencourt scored her 100th career point in her team’s 10-0 thrashing of Saugus. Brooke Lomasney delivered a goal and two assists, while Jordan Petitjean scored two goals for the Tanners.

Eight Tanners found the back of the net. Add 32 ground balls and 15 forced turnovers, and what a game it makes. McKenna Forni was given the game ball for her hard work and leadership.
