You know what I’ve been thinking? A six-hit week with five runs, four RBI, and a home run is, well, the real deal. That’s exactly what LeaNyah Pineiro did for Lynn English’s softball team, which picked up two wins last week.
Her hot hand ignited in a game against Chelsea. The Bulldogs (8-9) annihilated the competition 15-2, and Pineiro did it all. The lefty snagged two hits, scored two runs, and showed off her patience at the plate with a walk.
And if that hot hand ignited against Chelsea, it caught fire against Malden. Oh, and if you needed a tight game to validate her week, this one was 15-14 in favor of English. In one of the top plate performances of the softball season so far, Pineiro collected four hits, four RBI, and scored three runs. Her home run and double were nice additions to her highlight reel, and she was just a triple away from a cycle.
I know this is a Player of the Week nod, but Pineiro also recorded a multi-hit game against Somerville last week.
English hosts Revere at 4 p.m. Wednesday. Will Pineiro keep her hot hand going, and, perhaps, look for that cycle? Only time will tell. LeaNyah, good week.
