Defending its home diamond with ease, the Saugus softball team (11-6 ) doubled up Salem 14-7 Saturday. Better yet, the Sachems clinched the Northeastern Conference Lynch Division for the second time in three years (2021).
“I’m extremely proud of the kids overall,” Saugus coach Steve Almquist said. “We’re a very, very young team [with] no seniors.”
Taylor Deleidi went the distance to earn the win for Saugus. Per usual, Lily Ventre shined at the plate, going 4-for-4 with two RBI, two triples, and two singles with four runs scored.
Devany Millerick and Ava Rogers each went home with two hits and two RBI. Kaitlyn Pugh socked two hits, and Maria Silva registered two RBI.
Saugus travels to take on Masconomet at 4:30 p.m. Monday.

St. Mary’s baseball team (11-6) took care of business against Hamilton-Wenham on Sunday afternoon. Jacob Peterson went six innings, striking out eight and allowing just two hits.
Shea Newhall (2-for-3, 2 RBI), Michael Demaino (2-for-3, 1 run, 1 RBI) and Tad Giardina (1-for-2, 1 run, 2 RBI) had big offensive days.

Marblehead’s boys lacrosse team (16-0) was undefeated heading into Saturday’s game against Lexington. Spoiler alert, it still is.
The Magicians were led by superstar Connor Cronin who ripped four goals to go with two assists. Charlie Grenier wasn’t too shabby, either, registering a pair of goals and three assists. Goalie Finn Maniaci made 10 saves between Marblehead’s pipes.
GIRLS TENNIS

Peabody’s girls tennis team (6-5) jumped to above .500 after shutting out Saugus 5-0. Jessica Chau, Valentina Goga, and Yasmine Giacalone – who didn’t even concede a point – shined in singles action.
Jesica Demiri and Vanessa Kolani won first doubles (6-3, 6-0), while Eftyghia Kourtelidis and Argiro Psyhogios got the job done in second doubles (6-1, 6-1).
