To the editor:
This letter is to send a big thank you to the Town Meeting members of Saugus who voted to not rezone Cliftondale, and to also clear the air on the misconception, or the misconstrued notion, of labeling the residents who oppose rezoning as “naysayers” or people who are “afraid of change,” as insinuated by selectman Jeff Cicolini.
We are not afraid of change — if anything that is the complete opposite of what we are about.
The bottom line is we want what is best for our community. As represented through the surveys referenced in the Saugus 2035 master plan and the Cliftondale Revitalization Committee’s final report, there is a good majority of poll-takers who do not want additional congestion in terms of apartments here.
As Town Meeting member Bob Long had mentioned, this recently declined article is not mainly focused on making this place safer. If anything it is the complete opposite — the article is an urban redevelopment project geared toward adding more congestion to an already congested area.
Sincerely,
Mark Sacco Jr.
Saugus resident
