Lynnfield softball gets revenge on North Reading (ROUNDUP)

When you get mercy ruled by your opponents earlier in the season, that could be a psychological hurdle the next time you face them. However, that’s not the case for the Lynnfield softball team (11-8), which defeated North Reading 7-6 Wednesday.

It wasn’t easy, either. Lynnfield trailed 6-3 in the bottom of the seventh inning, but stayed together and rallied to score four runs.

Lynnfield registered just six hits, but made them count. Kaila George began the rally with a single, eventually scoring after a Lily Williams bunt. Then, Ava Gamache brought home a run with an RBI single. Gamache would later steal home on a wild pitch to tie the game 6-6.

Catie Kampersal drove in the winning run (7-6) on an infield grounder – marking the completion of Lynnfield’s revenge tour.

Junior pitcher Sophia Brown “pitched her heart out for the biggest win in her career,” according to coach Hector Longo. Brown pitched the entire game, headlined by five strikeout innings.

The rain caused the match to end early, but fortunately for the Tanners, they had already won four matches to improve to 7-6.

Peabody was on pace to sweep Gloucester, but in first singles, Jessica Chau was unable to finish her match before the rain spoiled things. Valentina Goga won her second singles match 6-3, 6-2, while Yasmine Giacalone won her match 6-2, 6-0 to round out singles action.

Peabody’s doubles teams put on a show with both the first and second duos winning comfortably. Jesica Demiri and Eftyghia Kourtelidis won their match 6-3, 6-3, while Vanessa Kolani and Argiro Psyhogios won 6-1, 6-0.
