Ruby Calienes of Marblehead softball allowed six hits and retired seven in a complete-game win against Medford Thursday. She also added a single in the 7-2 victory.
Luka Bornhorst went 2-for-4 with a fence-clearing bomb in the second inning, Ashley Mortensen went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two runs. Continuing the offensive versatility, Lyla McGovern and Isabel Mortensen each went 1-for-3 for Marblehead.
On a side note, Tessa Andriano had two hits that would have been out of most ballparks, according to coach Jonathan Gold.
Despite the offensive explosiveness at times, Gold credited his defense for the victory.
“The game was won by our outfield of Sophia Hallisey, Ashley Mortensen, and Clara Donovan as they were outstanding,” Gold said. “Catcher Isabel Mortensen also had a great defensive game behind the dish.”
