Athlete of the Week – Brooke Waters

Joey Barrett

May 28, 2023 by Joey Barrett

You know what I’ve been thinking? No matter how big the stage curtain might be, the Brooke Waters show just can’t be stopped. The Swampscott girls lacrosse superstar just can’t be stopped, and last week was no exception.

Before we get to the stats and scores, her longevity is impressive in itself. The senior has been doing this for a while, and since game number one this season, you just had a feeling it would be, well, a monstrous spring for her.

Getting her week started, she ripped a hat trick against Gloucester in her team’s 10-8 win on Tuesday. I know, I know, that’s a pretty average stat for Waters, but impressive nonetheless. Four of Swampscott’s players registered multiple goals in the game, and Waters’ were as timely as ever in her team’s narrow win.

Fast forward to Friday, and Waters scored four goals alongside an assist in Swampscott’s 11-7 victory against Melrose. When you nearly match your opponent in points, you’re doing something right. It was a happy Friday for Waters.

On a side note, if this award was Athlete of the Month, she’d have to be considered, too. She scored another four goals against Saugus last week.

Not only did she record eight points across two wins this week, but she helped Swampscott move to 14-2 on the season. Also, the do-it-all Big Blue athlete signed her letter of commitment to play field hockey at St. Ansley College this fall. It will be alongside teammate Olivia Baran who committed to play field hockey at St. Ansley the same day. Brooke, good week.
