LYNN — Tommy Falasca of St. Mary’s baseball was all smiles after his team’s 4-1 win against Lynn Classical Saturday. His team upped its record to 13-6 and captured the Doug Mullins Tournament title.

Oh, and he was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.

“I think it’s a great honor because, last year, my teammate Aiven Cabral won it,” Falasca said. “He’s really successful right now at the college level (Northeastern).”

But baseball is a team game. To use his own words, every Spartan would’ve gotten the award if it was up to Falasca.

“I feel like as a team, it was more of a team victory,” Falasca said. “The team should have won this. We all battled together and got all of the runs we needed.”

The senior struck out nine and allowed just three hits in St. Mary’s 9-0 win against English Friday night. He kept it going Saturday, playing well at the plate and making a great throw from third to first to catch eyes in the fifth inning.

“Tommy Falasca was outstanding,” St. Mary’s coach Derek Dana said.

When asked what he’d take away from the tournament, Falasca answered from a different perspective. He was nailed by the ball on the first pitch of the game.

“Probably getting hit in the face,” Falasca said.
