SAUGUS — The School Committee’s athletic subcommittee has kickstarted an initiative to implement a more comprehensive list of sports banners in the Middle-High School’s gymnasium, which will be unveiled in September.

The subcommittee plans to meet in the next couple of weeks to finalize the banners’ contents.

School Committee member Dennis Gould, who currently leads the data-collection initiative for the banners, said that the athletic subcommittee realized the current banners lack data on some of the school’s teams from before 1969.

“It’s very important, first of all from a historical standpoint, to see what Saugus did the best, but also to give [new students] something to strive for,” Gould said.

Gould added that the athletic subcommittee hopes to represent all the girls and boys teams that either won a conference championship or state championship.

“Some of the girls’ teams were not publicized, so we’re gonna make sure that they’re recognized,” Gould said.

The historical team statistics will be displayed on banners hung inside the gym, Gould said. For individual sports, the most recent titles and awards will be featured outside the auditorium facing the gymnasium.
