You know what I’ve been thinking? Jimmy Ayers of St. John’s Prep had a week he’ll never forget. From a pair of tournament wins in boys lacrosse, to a handful of goals, and to being named a Moynihan Lumber Student-Athlete of the Year, Ayers has to be feeling pretty good.
The on-field action began Thursday as Prep hosted Wellesley in the Sweet 16. In a 16-1 thrashing of the opposition, Ayers scored a goal and helped orchestrate the offense from the opening faceoff. I know, I know, one goal isn’t much – for Ayers’ standards – but his mere presence forced Wellesley to adjust, allowing his teammates to find twine over, and over, and over again.
Fast forward two days, and Prep took care of North Andover with ease 13-2. Ayers scored a pair of goals to lead his team to the win – and the Final Four.
But arguably the biggest accomplishment for the Johns Hopkins-commit came Tuesday, as Ayers was named a Moynihan Lumber Student-Athlete of the Year. With legends of old and new celebrating his accomplishments at Salem Country Club in Peabody, Ayers gave a thoughtful speech before pictures and hugs after the event.
Ayers carries a 4.27 GPA, and has established himself as one of the top lacrosse players in New England. Jimmy, good week.
