Save the Harbor/Save the Bay’s Better Beaches program, in collaboration with the state Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR), has awarded $25,500 to eight different beach events in Lynn and Nahant this summer.
Save the Harbor/Save the Bay Executive Director Chris Mancini said the organization is giving away more funds than it ever has thanks to money received from the state, as well as money raised by the organization.
“It’s going to be a terrific summer, with more free events and programs than ever before,” Mancini said. “Working with our program partners, we intend to highlight the racial and cultural diversity of our region and amplify our core messages of public safety, inclusion, and fun. Above all, we want our beaches to be safe and healthy places for everyone to enjoy. Diverse and welcoming programming is a key piece of that effort.”
Metropolitan Beaches Commission Co-Chair and state Sen. Brendan Crighton (D-Lynn) said that the Better Beaches program has been working since 2008 to improve beach access and bring the beaches to life.
“I’m proud to see participation increase and become more diverse each year thanks to the efforts of Save the Harbor’s dedicated staff,” Crighton said.
DCR is looking forward to “another great summer” full of free events on DCR beaches, DCR Commissioner Brian Arrigo said.
“DCR is committed to working with our partners like Save the Harbor/Save the Bay to ensure that our beautiful beaches are welcoming and inclusive places for residents of all abilities, races, incomes, and language capabilities,” Arrigo said.
