LYNN — Lynn’s annual fifth-grade track and field meet has kicked off, with more than 1,000 kids competing in the outdoor event. Some of them – in a few years time – will be in Lynn high schools, and it’s safe to say they’re on the right track.
Three days into the event, it saw records that have been held for more than seven years be broken.
The first to fall was the 800m, courtesy of Fiona Dunn from Shoemaker School. Dunn ran it in 3:06.0, shattering the previous record of 3:22.9 set by Sabrina Ossambo Da Silva of Connery Elementary in 2016.
The girls 800m wasn’t the only one to be broken, as Jacob Morin of Sewell Anderson School broke a five-year record on the boys’ side, running it in 2:56.3. The previous record was held by Andrew Koroma of Washington Elementary with a time of 2:57.4.
The softball throw also has a new girl to beat. Bella Disaia of Callahan Elementary recorded an impressive throw of 128-0, besting the previous record of 121-7. The 2017 record was held by Merlyn Garcia Santana of Lincoln-Thompson.
