LYNNFIELD — The idea for Re-create Studio started when owner Heidi Reynolds saw her future home and art studio online earlier this year.
“When we saw this place we said, ‘This has to happen,’” Reynolds, who was living in Melrose at the time, said. “We sold our house in a week.”
Re-create Studio is the culmination of a longtime dream for Reynolds, who had been doing pop-up events for years at places like Follow Your Art in Melrose and the Lawn on D in Boston.
“I’ve always wanted to run an art studio,” Reynolds said.
The space is located in the loft of a barn on Reynolds’ property and is set to become a space for artists of all ages to learn and create, with offerings such as open-studio time, one-on-one lessons, and group classes and workshops. The focus of the studio will be on sculpture and painting.
Reynolds said green-living classes will also be offered in the space. This aligns with her goal of creating as sustainable a studio as possible.
“I just wanted to have an art studio that’s also green,” Reynolds said. “As an artist, the amount of waste is just ridiculous.”
The studio has mostly been furnished with second-hand furniture, which Reynolds said is part of her effort to create a space free of waste.
Re-create Studio includes outdoor space and an entrance to the Lynn Woods trail system on the property, something Reynolds said will provide opportunities for “plein-air” classes, as well as art-in-nature programs for children, which she plans to start this summer. Reynolds, a mother of twins, said blurring the line between art and nature is important — not just for adults, but for children as well.
“For kids to be in a quiet, peaceful place and be creative at the same time … we just want to share it,” Reynolds said.
Reynolds has been teaching art since 2014 and holds a Master of Fine Arts degree from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University.
Reynolds said she has been teaching some one-on-one classes since early spring and has begun Re-create’s soft opening this month with the studio’s first Craft and Coffee workshop on June 17. She is planning a full opening later this summer.
“It seems to be positive feedback so far,” Reynolds said.
She said she believed that every community should have spaces like Re-create Studio, and was excited to see her vision of the space come to life.
“I had wanted this my whole life,” Reynolds said. “This was like a dream to have this space be here.”
