LYNN — United Lynn Pride, local leaders, performers, and community members gathered at City Hall Tuesday evening for the annual pride flag raising.
The event, which was organized by T Nash and Rosie Conway, featured speeches from Mayor Jared Nicholson and School Committee member Tiffany Magnolia. There were also performances from In the Mak’n, The Hazzel Jinx Collective, Leelyi (JKWL), and Madam Zapple.
Later in the evening, the bottom of an overpass in Central Square was lit up with rainbow lights for United Lynn Pride’s Rainbow Bridge Lighting event.
Organized by Kat Herbst-Rubio, that event featured performances from Cultura Latina Dance Academy, Dave Simmons, Joe Skahan, Boogey Bros, and Katey & the Illicit.
Nicholson and Ward 3 City Councilor Coco Alinsug both gave speeches at the bridge lighting. United Lynn Pride Executive Director Cristian Recinos gave remarks as well.
United Lynn Pride was also planning on presenting an honorable accreditation to a nominated local leader. However, Recinos said no individual garnered enough nominations to receive an accreditation.
“That lack of response is indicative of how important the cause is to uplift the LGBTQ+ community in Lynn, because I think the community is unaware of the leaders there were/are in the community,” Recinos told The Daily Item.
