To the editor:
I would like to thank and commend Aaron Berdofe for his excellent article in the June 13 issue of The Item about the issues to be considered regarding the disposition of the historic Glover House, and our desperate need for more and affordable housing.
Mr. Berdofe astutely avoids the traps of either/or thinking that so often result in creating polarized positions and false limitations. He complicates our thinking by reminding us that our history is bigger and longer than the American/English fight for our independence, and that our housing crisis is the compounded result of years of decisions that did not hold the long view.
With Mr. Berdofe, I would like us to take several steps back so that we can hold a longer and broader view of history while we weigh our options and seek to understand the ways our operating values have served us, or possibly not served us, and how they have created dilemmas.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
The Rev. Dr. Anita Farber-Robertson
