You know what I’ve been thinking? At the Agganis Games, the stars come out, and in case you’ve been hiding under a rock the past few months, St. Mary’s Anna Fringuelli is certainly that.
The Spartan was invited to the All-Star softball game at Fraser Field alongside the region’s best, and wasted no time, frankly, picking up where she left off a few weeks ago. She was named the South’s Most Valuable Player, dominating on the mound – and against it.
Fringuelli batted 3-for-4 with an RBI, and on the hill, allowed just one unearned run on four hits to go with six strikeouts.
Her wow-moment came in the third inning. Most pitchers crumble against a bases-loaded situation with no outs, but the ace sent three consecutive batters back to the dugout to retire the inning.
Her run came in the second inning after she got on base with a single, and her RBI made things 5-2 South with Peabody’s Isabel Bettencourt tapping home plate in the sixth.
Bettencourt also did the catching for Fringuelli. From one superstar to the other, you can guess how lethal a combination it was.
