LYNN — The North Shore Juneteenth Association will host its annual Reading Frederick Douglass celebration on Monday, July 3 at 11 a.m. at Frederick Douglas Park.
The highlight of the day will take place on the main stage with a community reading of Frederick Douglass’s thrilling speech, “What to the Slave Is the Fourth of July?” People from all the communities of Lynn will take turns reading paragraphs from the speech, which contemplates the relationship between our founding documents and the reality of slavery in America in 1852.
This year there will be performances by Janey David, Michelle La Poetica, One of a Kind, and the Cultura Dance Academy. There will be booths of Black-owned businesses at the event.
This free event will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and be held at Frederick Douglass Park, 1 Exchange St, Lynn. For more information go to north-shore-juneteenth-assoc.constantcontactsites.com
