Greater Lynn Babe Ruth on a roll

Joey Barrett

July 2, 2023 by Joey Barrett

LYNN — With a few more in the win column this week, Fourth of July cookouts are about to be fun as all three Greater Lynn Babe Ruth teams are 2-0 heading into the holiday.

The 15s (10 hits) tripled up Marblehead Wednesday (15-5) with Nate Cutone leading the way. Talk about explosiveness – he doubled and singled twice in back-to-back-to-back innings.

Marblehead jumped out to a 2-0 lead, actually, but Greater Lynn’s Michael Demaino had different plans. He stole home to tie the game 2-2 in the bottom of the first.

The second inning was a different story. Greater Lynn (15 total walks) rattled off seven runs off three hits for a 9-2 cushion.

Good teams don’t stop. An inning later, Kyle Doney walked, Jordan Rogriguez hit into a fielder’s choice, and Jonas Auguste walked – resulting in three more runs.

JJ Avery – who also walked three times at the plate – earned the win, allowing just two hits across three innings to go with three punchouts. Nate Lee and David Palmer each entered in relief, with Lee snagging the save.

Greater Lynn also swiped 10 bags.

Then came the Greater Lynn 14s, who impressed with a 7-2 win against Dorchester. Jendol Diaz started on the mound, conceding just two runs in the victory.

With Nico Santanasco and Kalen Huddle showing out on offense, the team scored four in the fourth and never looked back.

Jared Burke had two RBI and Ewerd Beato pitched 4 2/3 shutout innings in relief, striking out 10.
