You know what I’ve been thinking? Even from Friday, they’re probably still looking for hit baseballs at Arthur Grabowski Field in Saugus.
The Lynnfield Little League 12s took care of Saugus 17-0. Better yet, the Pioneers upped their record to 2-0 and are past the second round of the District 16 tournament.
You could go up and down the roster in this one, but key contributors in navy blue were Joey Polcari (3 hits, 2 RBI), Paul Tappan (2-for-3, 2 runs), Henry Morgan (2-for-3, 2 runs, 2 RBI) and first baseman Evan Swales (2-for-2, 2 RBI). Starting pitcher Owen Burke allowed just one hit and punched out four.
To say Lynnfield’s attack was explosive would be a ballpark-sized understatement. The Pioneers scored 11 runs in the second and five in the third, putting the Sachems away early.
They return to action Friday against Swampscott (5:45 p.m. in Saugus).
“A lot of kids are coming off a town season and some AAU stuff and the whole thing, so it’s important to have some time off,” Lynnfield manager Dave Polcari said.
Will Lynnfield rack up another barrage, or will the Big Blue play to their name? See you in Saturday’s paper.
Pioneers, good week.
