Lynn and Swampscott Independence Day celebrations postponed

Organizers of the Lynn Fireworks Celebration, Swampscott’s Fireworks Festival Veterans Fundraiser, and the Lynn Woods Fourth of July procession postponed their events due to inclement weather.

The Lynn Fireworks Celebration and Swampscott’s Fireworks Festival Veterans Fundraiser will now take place Wednesday, July 5. The festival, featuring a beer garden, live music performances, and food trucks, will begin at 5 p.m. at 22 Monument Ave. in Swampscott and require a $5 entry fee to benefit veterans. The fireworks celebration will start at 9:15 p.m. and can be viewed from King’s Beach.

Lynn Woods Fourth of July procession organizer Michele Brewster hopes the rain won’t dampen the city’s patriotic spirit before Sunday, July 9, which is now the scheduled rain date for the parade.

Brewster previously told The Item that an average of 200 people attend the parade each year, which is typically held from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. On Sunday, the procession will begin on Lynnfield Street, head down Great Wood Street, and will end at the girls softball fields at Wyoma Little League Field – where there will be pony rides, egg tosses, and face painting.

“I’m really sorry about the change with the date,” Brewster wrote in a Facebook post. “I want us all to be able to have the parade and festivities and be safe.”
