LYNN — The school district, in partnership with Project Bread, is providing free meals during the summertime for youth ages 18 and under at select schools in the city.
“With our partnership with Project Bread, we’re able to continue the Summer Eats program to ensure our youth have access to healthy meals and snacks, even when school is not in session,” Mayor Jared Nicholson posted to social media.
Project Bread is a nonprofit in Massachusetts that fights food insecurity.
“Project Bread is committed to making sure that people in Massachusetts can afford enough to eat because hunger is an injustice,” according to the organization’s website.
The Summer Eats program is a statewide initiative and according to its website, in July 2022, over two million meals were served to kids across 1,500 meal sites. This summer in Lynn, there are 26 locations serving breakfast, lunch, or both, according to the city’s website.
Locations providing breakfast include: Aborn Elementary School, Brickett Elementary School, Cobbet Elementary School, Fallon Elementary School, Lincoln-Thomson Elementary School, Lynn Woods Elementary School, and Sisson Elementary School.
Locations providing lunch include: Callahan Elementary School, Drewicz Elementary School, Harrington Elementary School, Hood Elementary School, and Washington Elementary School.
The locations providing both breakfast and lunch are: Gregg House, Lynn Classical High School, Breed Middle School, Lynn English High School, Marshall Middle School, Lynn Vocational Technical Institute Annex, and Pickering Middle School.
There will also be lunch provided at several parks in the city: Flax Pond Playground, Barry Park, Williams Avenue Playground, Lynn Woods Park, Gallagher Park, Neptune Boulevard Park, and Gowdy Park.
Times for the meals vary depending on location. The earliest breakfast meal starts at 7:45 a.m. and the latest breakfast meal ends at 9 a.m. The earliest lunch meal starts at 11 a.m. and the latest lunch meal ends at 1:15 p.m.
This year’s program launched on June 26, and the exact dates it will run until depend on the location. The earliest end date is Aug. 3 at Breed Middle School. The latest is Sept. 1 at Callahan, Drewicz, Harrington, Hood, and Washington elementary schools.
According to the city, no identification or pre-registration is required for the program.
