The Greater Lynn Babe Ruth 15s accomplished a lot of goals this summer. From individual breakouts to tournament wins, Coach Leon Elwell and company played their parts.
Unfortunately for the program, it fell short of its ultimate goal, losing in Saturday’s championship game against Braintree 3-2 at Libby Field in Weymouth.
The game was as close as it looked, as Greater Lynn had more at-bats (27 to 21), double the hits (6 to 3), and committed one error to Braintree’s two.
And despite trailing 2-0 after three innings, Greater Lynn stormed back to tie the game. That said, Braintree scored in the seventh and final inning to escape with the victory.
The stars came out, however. Greater Lynn was led by Jake Peterson who went 2-for-4 with an RBI, also pitching six innings where he allowed just two hits, two runs, and four walks while punching out six batters.
Other hits came from Michael Demaino, Kyle Doney (2) and Jonas Auguste, while Nate Cutone walked twice to round out the offense.
