WINCHESTER — State police on Sunday identified a male who drowned while swimming off Shannon Beach in the Upper Mystic Lakes Saturday evening as a 17-year-old who lived in Lynn.
Luis Tejeda was swimming with several family members Saturday when he and another family member swam “well past” the safe-swimming barriers, about 100 yards offshore, state police spokesman David Procopio said in a statement. The person Tejeda was swimming with realized Tejeda was no longer visible at the surface, commencing a search for him while family members called 911 around 7 p.m.
Tejeda’s body was found by Stoneham firefighters in about six feet of water near the place he was last seen, state police said.
The beach has no lifeguards after 6 p.m., Procopio said.
There is no suspicion of foul play in Tejeda’s death, and the official cause of death is pending, he added.
The investigation into the death is being led by the State Police Detective Unit for Middlesex County.
