You know what I’ve been thinking? Two-time North Shore Navigator Sal Frelick made his home state proud in his MLB debut for the Milwaukee Brewers.
In Saturday’s 4-3 win against the Braves, the 23-year-old from Lexington did it all, collecting three hits, a run, two RBI, and a pair of highlight-reel catches in the outfield.
In the eighth inning, he hit a sacrifice fly to drive in the winning run, putting a lid on one of the greatest debuts in franchise history.
Frelick tore a ligament in his thumb back in April, making Saturday’s heroics that much more thrilling for his family in attendance.
He hit .252 with two homers and eight steals in the minors. With the Navigators in 2020, Frelick recorded 26 runs, 39 hits, a .473 on-base percentage, and reached base in 22 of 24 games played.
A year later, he was drafted 15th overall by the Brewers out of Boston College, where he was named New England Rookie of the Year in 2019 after hitting .345 with 97 runs and 63 RBI.
From the faithful who watched you for two summers, good week, and keep it up.
