SAUGUS — Town Manager Scott Crabtree issued a heat advisory and warned residents of potential flooding risks, with high temperatures and thunderstorms expected to bear down on the region through Friday evening.
Citing the National Weather Service, Crabtree warned of “excessive heat and high temperatures for the next couple of days,” which could lead to heat illnesses after exposure to the oppressive heat and humidity. Flooding due to excessive rainfall “continues to be possible,” he cautioned.
“Residents are urged to take precautions during the predicted extreme heat,” Crabtree said in a statement. “Never under any circumstances leave children or pets alone in a vehicle.”
“Find an air-conditioned space or other cool spot for relief, and watch out for heat-related illnesses,” Crabtree added. “Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, and stay out of the sun.”
Crabtree encouraged residents to check in on family, friends, and neighbors to ensure they remain safe during the heat wave. Anyone who experiences heat stroke is urged to call 911.
“Please contact us if you need any… emergency services, including needing a cool spot for relief,” he said, noting that the Police, Fire, Emergency Management, and Public Works departments will assist residents however they can. “We are here to help.”
“Thank you and be safe,” Crabtree said.
