LYNN — Lifelong Lynn resident and the town of Reading’s Assistant Public Works Director Christopher Cole has been given the Boston Society of Civil Engineers Section’s 2023 Government Civil Engineer of the Year award, according to a press release from the town.
Cole has worked for the town of Reading for 19 years and was named assistant director of Public Works in 2014, the press release said.
“Working for the town has been a truly fulfilling experience,” Cole said.
He said he will “always treasure” the projects he has designed and overseen during his time working for the town.
“The Reading Public Works Department is one of the best around. The staff are truly dedicated to what they do, and it is a privilege to be their assistant director,” Cole said.
Cole thanked the town’s former Town Manager Bob LeLacheur for his appointment to assistant director. He also thanked current Town Manager Fidel Maltez and Public Works Director Jane Kinsella.
“I would also like to thank BSCES for this prestigious honor. I am truly humbled to have received this award,” he said.
The award Cole received is presented every year to a BSCES member that serves as a public-sector engineer at the federal, state, or municipal level, the press release said.
“Congratulations to Chris,” Maltez said. “This award is a well-deserved honor for Chris in his role with the town. His leadership and engineering excellence have helped accomplish critical infrastructure projects that have brought improved town services, and enhanced experiences for the residents and businesses of Reading.”
Kinsella said that Cole is a “tremendous asset” to the Department of Public Works.
“He is the ultimate team leader, recognizing his responsibility to the team and the importance of each member,” Kinsella said. “He works tirelessly to make sure that commitments are met and that all staff have the resources they need to be successful.
