To the editor:
I remember the day like it was yesterday. I was seeing my grandparents in India, and I was huddled in the corner of the guest room, desperately trying to submit my last essay for summer work. With only an old phone’s hotspot connection, every click felt like an eternity.
As my frustration and anxiety grew, I couldn’t help but keep thinking: Why should anyone have to constantly endure this torturous experience? What about all the students and employees who have to go through this all the time?
It was at that moment I realized the undeniable importance of broadband internet access for everyone.
Our world heavily relies on the internet. We use it for communication and connection, education, entertainment, and so much more. And even though most of us couldn’t imagine life without it, over 42 million people here in the United States still don’t have access to high-quality internet.
Rep. Seth Moulton seems to truly understand how important this digital infrastructure is to our society.
As he said himself, “Broadband internet access is a right, not a privilege. No matter where you live, you should be able to get the same online service, compete for the same online jobs, and communicate freely with family and friends.”
Moulton and the other Democratic members of Congress recently secured $145 million to expand broadband access to thousands more people in Massachusetts.
Democrats are delivering, and we need more of that.
