Plenty to appreciate in disappointing finish for Navs

LYNN — With Ocean State’s sweep of Martha’s Vineyard this week, the North Shore Navigators have been eliminated from NECBL playoff contention, bringing an end to their summer.

The Navs went 18-24 for last place in the Coastal Division and third-last overall. Twelve players batted above .200 with Ohio State star Henry Kaczmar leading the way.

BATTING AVERAGE (TOP 10):

1 – Henry Kaczmar (.313)
2 – Evan Griffis (.308)
3 – Brandon Drapeau (.279)
4 – Stan DeMartinis III (.274)
5 – Jacob Jarrell (.260)
T6 – Jake McElroy (.236)
T6 – Matthew Chatelle (.236)
T8 – Jake Berger (.231)
T8 – Nick White (.231)
10 – Mike La Rocca (.222)

On the mound, Stetson’s Cooper Smith and Salve Regina’s Brayden Clark (Beverly) each sported an ERA of 2.13. Each pitched seven games and 38 innings apiece.

Berger, DeMartinis, Kaczmar, Griffis, Clark, and Chatelle were named NECBL All-Stars with the game being played at Fraser Field on July 23.

Berger connected on a solo blast in the eighth inning for East’s lone run (5-1 West), while Clark tossed a scoreless second inning with a strikeout.

The Navs released a statement thanking their fans for a great summer:
