You know what I’ve been thinking? Even at the college level, Endicott’s Katie Watts of Swampscott continues to put on a show.
This week, Watts earned Easton/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-America Scholar-Athlete honors (recipients must maintain a minimum 3.50 grade-point average). On the field, Watts helped lead the Gulls to a 36-9 record and their fourth consecutive championship in the Commonwealth Coast Conference.
The now-graduated mathematics major showed out on the diamond, too. Watts suited up in 45 games, registering 46 hits, 35 runs, 10 doubles, two homers, 20 RBI, seven stolen bases, and a batting average of .317.
Yeah, that’s a superstar for you.
Some of Watts’ top performances included three-hit games against Gordon, Nichols, and Wellesley, and she snatched multiple RBI in six games.
That said, none topped her postseason performance against No. 4 Nichols as Watts hit back-to-back homers in the first inning to set the tone for top-seeded Endicott, which won the game 5-0.
Watts finished her career with a .388 batting average, 115 hits, and 56 RBI. But more importantly, now with a top-notch academic award, good week, Katie.
