PEABODY — Jillian Tobin has been hired as the new field hockey coach at Peabody High School. Tobin, who graduated from Peabody Veterans Memorial High School in 2006, manned the goal as keeper for four years on the Tanners’ field hockey team.
“Coming home to coach where it all started for me means more than most can ever understand,” Tobin said. “I started playing a game, I knew it was in my blood, as a freshman at PVMHS and now the opportunity to lead it as a coach is an honor.”
After high school, Tobin went on to play at Merrimack College where she graduated in 2009 with degrees in psychology and Middle Eastern Religions.
Before accepting the Peabody position, Tobin was an assistant coach at Methuen High School. She currently serves as USA Field Hockey Futures/Nexxus program goalkeeper coach and advisor.
Tobin inherits a team that finished 7-12-1 last year which failed to qualify for the MIAA State Tournament.
She holds several National Federation of State High School Associations (NSHS) certificates.
Tobin is co-owner of Prime Field Hockey, a volunteer-run club field hockey program she founded in 2003 with her father, Rick Tobin, according to Prime’s website. The website also states that Prime is a non-profit developmental club field hockey program that caters to North Shore area field hockey players. Prime offers individual lessons, organized practices, stick practices, and league play at Danvers Indoor Sports and tournament play from January through April.
Tobin replaces Tawny Palmieri, who was informed in July that she would not be asked to come back for the 2023 season. Palmieri was also let go as coach of the softball team.
The Tanners open the season at home Sept. 5 against Marblehead.
