GLOUCESTER — Two Lynn and Peabody residents are facing drug-trafficking charges after police found them allegedly delivering drugs in the city, Essex District Attorney Paul Tucker’s office said.
David Garcia, 21, of Lynn, and Wilving Lopez, 22, of Peabody, are each charged with trafficking in fentanyl (more than 10 grams) and trafficking in cocaine (36 grams or more), both of which are felonies, said Glen Johnson, a spokesperson for Tucker’s office, in a statement. Garcia is also charged with resisting arrest for allegedly struggling with a Gloucester Police officer.
During their arraignment in Peabody District Court, both men were ordered held without bail pending the outcome of a dangerousness hearing, the statement said.
After receiving information about the supply of illicit drugs into the city, Gloucester police approached a car they believed to be delivering drugs Tuesday afternoon. The driver, later identified as Garcia, allegedly confronted officers when they ordered him to exit the vehicle, the statement said. Lopez, the front-seat passenger, was allegedly seen tossing a bag as he exited the vehicle. Witnesses told police they saw a third man leaving the vehicle, but officers were unable to locate him.
During a subsequent search, police were able to find the bag, which allegedly contained drugs. A search of the vehicle the men were in allegedly turned up drugs concealed in seatbacks and a can of leather cleaner with a false bottom, the statement said.
In all, authorities located 27 bags of suspected fentanyl, 38 bags of suspected crack cocaine, and two rolls of cash totaling nearly $1,400, the statement said.
