SAUGUS — A 65-year-old man who lived in town was found dead in Breakheart Reservation Wednesday evening after he failed to return home from a trip to the park to search for missing property, officials said.
The man, whose name has not been released pending notification of family and friends, was found by a family friend around 6:05 p.m. Wednesday, state police spokesman David Procopio said in a statement. The family friend had been searching for the man with other family members after reporting him missing at 5:45 p.m. that evening.
The man’s body was discovered “a few hundred yards into the reservation” near the base of the Castle Rock formation, officials said. The man had injuries “consistent with a fall,” said Glen Johnson, a spokesman for Essex District Attorney Paul Tucker.
The man’s death remains under investigation by state police. His death is not considered suspicious and there is no apparent ongoing threat to the public, Tucker said in a statement.
