Monday was the last meet of the summer for Lynn Park and Recreation’s ninth annual Summer Youth Track Series. It featured a relay composed of nearly 70 runners, as it was the first time most youngsters got to carry the bright red baton.
“We witnessed some great handoffs,” Organizer Joe Abelon said.
Twelve-year-old sprinter Mark Kivagheni of Lynn had five outstanding performances, placing second in both the 50m and 100m, and first in the 200m. Despite being a natural-born sprinter, for the first time, Kivagheni moved up to distance running where he won both the 800m and mile.
For the toddlers, 2-year-old Amarah Hawkins of Lynn crushed the 30m field with a blistering time of 8.1 seconds.
The boys 30m race had the closest finish of the season with 2-year-old Stokely Adeagbo of Belmont nipping 3-year-old Beckham Lucien of Lynn by less than a second (9.72 to 9.81).
