LYNNFIELD — The Lynnfield Art Guild announced the acceptance of two of its members’ artworks to the Rockport Art Association & Museum’s National Juried Show last week. Cathy Grassello and Elizabeth Noble will showcase their work at the National Representational & Contemporary Fine Art Juried Show at the Hibbard and Maddocks galleries from Sept. 30 to Nov. 5.
“I am so honored to be a part of the Rockport Art Association,” Noble said. “I was looking around my studio to find something for submission and dug out an old piece, and it was a total surprise it got selected.”
Noble’s watercolor illustration “Peppermint” is the artist’s ode to something from her personal life. The piece was just a sketch in her sketchbook before she decided to turn it into a painting.
“The art piece is kind of a simple piece,” Noble said. “I used to drink a lot of peppermint tea a few years ago when I was looking for a job. I was at my desk, searching for something new, and drinking lots of peppermint tea. That was the time I just made a little piece in my sketchbook. And then I turned it into a little watercolor illustration.”
Cathy Grassello, co-president of the Lynnfield Art Guild, submitted her piece “Heaven on Earth” to the show’s photography category. Grassello received a Wakefield Co-op award and third-place ribbon at the Lynnfield Art Guild May 2023 show for the same piece.
“My family for the longest time had a place in New Hampshire and as we drive along the road to get there, you see a very scenic area that has a little white church,” Grassello said. “I have photographed it in many different seasons but this was a day in December where it had rained and it just looked heavenly.”
Grassello said that many people don’t actually believe that the piece is a photograph when they first see it.
“I’ve had so many reactions to this piece,” Grassello said. “Some people think it looks like a painting, others think it is eerie, but I find it to be very soothing and it looks like it’s heaven on earth.”
